""Thank for an extremely educational and fun-filled experience at the pack basket workshop. The best thing about the class was that you never doubted my ability at handling a knife, drilling, sawing or weaving. I would recommend this class to anyone, Tim will make the experience memorable and enjoyable. Thank you Tim, I think I found a hobby of my own!"

Weaving a Basket
|
We schedule one of these workshops each year, but usually run several of them as private courses. We work with the person or group who wants to take the class and arrive at dates that work for both parties. Although usually run for small groups, they're often run one on one. The tuition is on a sliding scale depending on how many people are participating and whether we're using brown ash or basketry reed.
Participants will learn the entire process of building a pack basket from reed, and will also learn about using brown ash. Steps will include:
- Setting up the basket form
- Setting up the bottom
- Weaving the basket
- Letting the basket dry
- Folding over the verticals
- Putting on a rim
- Making and attaching the base and legs
- Putting on the shoulder straps
For those interested in making a pack basket but wanting to use the more traditional pounded splints, we also offer a pack basket workshops using brown ash.
